Biography

Stephanie accepts briefs in criminal law, quasi-criminal and public law matters.  

Prior to coming to the Bar, Stephanie was a solicitor-advocate at Victoria Legal Aid for seven years, and, most recently, was a Deputy Managing Lawyer in the Indictable Crime Team.

Stephanie regularly appeared as a defence advocate in the Magistrates’ Court, the Children’s Court and the County Court, in bail applications, pleas, contravention hearings, committal proceedings, and appeals. She has also appeared in Supreme Court bail applications.

Stephanie conducted casework on a range of summary and indictable matters, including serious violent offences, serious sexual offences, drug offences, fraud, culpable driving and visa offences under the Migration Act 1958. She also took carriage of matters under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act 1997 and the Serious Offenders Act 2018. Stephanie instructed in contested committal hearings, pre-trial hearings and trials.

Stephanie has appeared extensively before the therapeutic courts and the Mental Health Tribunal. Prior to working at VLA, Stephanie worked as an employment law solicitor in private practice and at the Australian Services Union. She also volunteered with Refugee Legal.

Stephanie is reading with Zoe Broughton. Her senior mentor is Sharon Lacy SC.
