Jonathan accepts briefs to appear and advise in all criminal and quasi-criminal law matters, including administrative law.
Jonathan regularly appears as defence counsel in criminal proceedings across all jurisdictions, including in:
- conviction and sentence appeals in the Court of Appeal;
- trials in the County Court;
- contested committals and contested hearings in the Magistrates’ Court;
- conviction and sentence appeals, Serious Offender and Crimes Mental Impairment proceedings in the County Court;
- pleas and bail applications in the Magistrates’ Court, County Court and Supreme Court.
He has also appeared, led, in trials in the Supreme Court.
He was selected as one of the junior counsel for Victoria Legal Aid’s Trial Counsel Development Program in 2024.
He holds an Indictable Crime Certificate (ICC) and is on Victoria Legal Aid’s Preferred Barrister List.
Prior to coming to the Bar, Jonathan was employed as a Senior Associate at Stary Norton Halphen. Jonathan was a solicitor advocate for over six years appearing in the Supreme Court, County Court and Magistrates’ Court. He was the managing lawyer of the Geelong office of Stary Norton Halphen for three years where he also gained experience in various circuit courts. He had carriage of the full range of criminal matters across all Court levels, including complex trials and appeals in the County Court and Supreme Court, conviction and/or sentence appeals in the Court of Appeal and special leave applications in the High Court.
