Biography

Oliver accepts briefs to appear and advise in all criminal and quasi-criminal law matters.

Before being called to the Bar, Oliver was a Solicitor Advocate at Pica Criminal Lawyers. There he developed a broad practice across all areas of criminal law, including homicides, sexual offences, drug cases, violence offences and appellate matters in the Court of Appeal and High Court. As a solicitor advocate, Oliver was in court on a daily basis. He has experience appearing in County Court plea, appeal and breach proceedings, as well as Magistrates’ Court contested hearings, pleas and bail applications.

Prior to this, Oliver was a Federal Prosecutor at the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions in the Revenue and Benefits Fraud, and Commercial and Financial Corruption practice groups.

Oliver was also the Associate to the Judge-in-charge of Criminal Division, Her Honour Judge Hannan at the County Court of Victoria. During this time, Oliver gained practical experience in indictable criminal procedure assisting with the running of the General List.

Oliver holds a Master of Laws from the University of Melbourne, and a Bachelor of Laws (with Honours) and Bachelor of Biomedical Science from Monash University.

Oliver is reading with Michael McGrath and his Senior Mentor is Peter Morrissey SC.
