Biography

Maddy accepts briefs in all areas of criminal law and quasi-criminal law, including administrative and regulatory matters.

Prior to coming to the bar, Maddy practised as a solicitor advocate at Stary Norton Halphen Criminal Lawyers. There, she had carriage of both state and commonwealth matters, involving homicide, sex offences, complex fraud and drug matters, as well as having carriage of Court of Appeal matters.

Maddy has appeared in County Court pleas, appeals, breach proceedings and post-sentence applications and reviews, including Supervision Order proceedings and Crimes (Mental Impairment) hearings. Maddy also appeared daily in the Magistrates’ Court and Children’s Court, in contested hearings, pleas and bail applications.

Maddy has experience advising in and providing written submissions for professional disciplinary proceedings and other administrative decision-making bodies.

Recently, Maddy was Associate to the Honourable Justice Coghlan AO and the Honourable Justice Croucher at the Supreme Court of Victoria, gaining further experience in criminal law, as well as in the area of judicial review.

Maddy is reading with Sharon Lacy. Her senior mentor is Ruth Shann SC.
