Biography

Kate accepts briefs to appear and advise in all criminal and quasi-criminal law matters, including administrative law.

Prior to coming to the bar, Kate was employed as a solicitor advocate for over five years at Doogue & George Defence Lawyers. There, she developed strong skills in the litigation of serious indictable crime matters including sex offences, homicides, drugs cases, violence and terrorism.

While at the firm, Kate travelled to the United States and completed an intensive jury trial training program run by the National Criminal Defense College.

Since coming to the bar, Kate has appeared and advised in a wide range of matters in both Victoria and interstate, including summary contested hearings, bail applications, contested committals, pleas of guilty, jury trials, and appeals.

Kate also has experience appearing and advising in quasi-criminal matters including coronial inquiries, coercive hearings, petitions for mercy, and state and Commonwealth royal commissions.

Kate is a member of the VLA Preferred Barrister List.

She read with Barnaby Johnston and her senior mentor is Dermot Dann QC.
