Biography

Criminal law

Harry regularly appears in jury trials, led and unled. He appears in the Supreme Court, County Court, Magistrates’ Court and the Children’s Court of Victoria in criminal proceedings at all stages. He has appears in the Court of Appeal, both led and unled. Harry also appears in quasi-criminal matters, and in complex matters regarding mental impairment and fitness investigations. He has appeared in special hearings under the Crimes (Mental Impairment and Unfitness to be Tried) Act.

Harry is on Victoria Legal Aid’s Preferred Trial Barrister List and holds an Indictable Crime Certificate. He is a member of the Criminal Bar Association.

Harry welcomes both appearance work and advice work.

Public law and human rights

Harry also practices in public law and human rights law. He has worked and lived in Nauru for extended periods of time representing asylum seekers. He has appeared several times for asylum seekers at the Refugee Status Review Tribunal in Nauru. He has appeared in numerous matters seeking judicial review of protection visa decisions and visa cancelation decisions under the Migration Act 1958 (Cth).

Harry practices in discrimination law and accepts briefs in matters arising under the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic) and under commonwealth discrimination legislation.

Harry is available to appear in and advise on matters relating to the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006 (Vic).

He was previously a member of Victorian Bar’s Human Rights Committee and the Svenson Barristers List Committee.

Harry has a substantial pro bono practice and was a nominee for the Ron Castan AM QC Award in 2023.

Harry is studying a Masters of Public and International Law at the University of Melbourne.

Harry has previously studied and worked in West Africa and South Africa. He studied international humanitarian law and international environmental law at the University of Ghana. He also lived in Cape Town, South Africa where he volunteered at Lawyers for Human Rights.

Harry has volunteered at Justice Connect, St Kilda Legal Service, Kimberley Community Legal Services and Refugee Legal.
