Biography

David practises primarily in criminal law, including regulatory and quasi-criminal matters.

David appears regularly in the Magistrates’ Court and the County Court. He has also appeared led and unled in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal. He has a particular interest in contested hearings involving police powers and questions of evidence law.

David has experience advising and appearing both for and against regulatory prosecuting authorities including the Victorian Building Authority, the Victorian Fisheries Authority, and local municipal councils. He also has experience in supervision order proceedings, proceeds of crime litigation, and firearm prohibition order matters in VCAT.

Prior to joining the Bar, David was Senior Associate to his Honour Chief Judge Kidd. David assisted his Honour in his capacity as the Chief Judge of the County Court and as an Acting Justice of Appeal in the Victorian Court of Appeal. Before this, David gained broad trial and appellate experience as a solicitor in criminal law.

David has been a Casual Academic at Deakin University since 2021, where he teaches evidence and criminal procedure. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) from Monash University in 2018.

David read with Amelia Beech and his Senior Mentor is Raelene Sharp SC (now Commonwealth DPP).
