Biography

David practises primarily in criminal and public law, including regulatory and quasi-criminal matters.

David appears in a range of hearings including pleas, appeals, contested summary hearings, committals and bail applications. He appears in County Court pleas and pre-trial hearings, and is also often led in proceedings in the County Court and the Supreme Court.

David has experience advising and appearing both for and against regulatory prosecuting authorities including the Victorian Building Authority, the Victorian Fisheries Authority, and local municipal councils. He also has experience in proceeds of crime litigation and merits review proceedings in VCAT.

Prior to joining the Bar, David was Senior Associate to his Honour Chief Judge Kidd. David assisted his Honour in his capacity as the Chief Judge of the County Court and as an Acting Justice of Appeal in the Victorian Court of Appeal. Before this, David gained broad trial and appellate experience as a solicitor. He had carriage of matters in all Victorian courts including drug trafficking, fraud, sexual offending and various property and violence-related offences.

David has been a Casual Academic at Deakin University since 2021, where he teaches evidence and criminal procedure. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons.) from Monash University in 2018.

David read with Amelia Beech and his Senior Mentor is Raelene Sharp SC (now Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions).
